Chocolate Brownies

Melting method-Makes about 16 small or 9 large squares.


  1. 50g Plain Dark Chocolate (with as high cocoa content as you can buy)[shop around]{Cadbury's could be an option},
  2. 65g Butter or Margarine,
  3. 175g Caster Sugar,
  4. 65g Self Raising Flour,
  5. 2 Eggs Beaten,
  6. 1/2 teaspoon Vanilla essence or flavouring(optional),
  7. 50g Walnuts(optional)[if you suffer allergies from nuts do not use]


  1. Grease the cake tin or line with baking paper [same as grease paper],
  2. Break up Chocolate into a bowl,
  3. Add Butter,
  4. Place bowl over a pan of hot water and heat gently, stirring occasionally until melted,
  5. Add the Caster Sugar to the Chocolate mixture,
  6. Sift the Flour into a bowl; add the Chocolate mixture, Eggs,Vanilla(if used), and Nuts(optional).Mix well,
  7. Pour mixture into prepared tin and bake in the oven at 170┬░celsius for 30-40 minutes,
  8. It will be cooked when it is well risen and just starts to leave the sids of the tin. It will be firm on the top bit soft underneath. Do not overcook as you want them to be gooey,
  9. Cool in the tin the cut up into squares.
